1. This excites an electron from the valence band into the conduction band. 2. Helium II has no such valence band but nevertheless conducts heat well. 3. Kane improved previous valence band models by adding the lowest conduction band. 4. The spin orbit splitting in the valence band is several hundred meV. 5. In the valence band the mobile carriers are " holes ". 6. Hole conduction in a valence band can be explained by the following analogy. 7. In nominally doped semiconductors, the Fermi level lies between the conduction and valence bands . 8. The valence band , immediately below the forbidden band, is normally very nearly completely occupied. 9. They " accept " electrons from the semiconductor's valence band . 10. The apparent effects are : band gap reduction, valence band splitting, and optical anisotropy.
